Mylex Participates in Computex Taipei

To Demonstrate RAID Controller's Role in Maximizing Network Uptime

TAIPEI, Taiwan and FREMONT, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 1, 1999--

Broad Range of Mylex RAID Controllers Maximize

Network Reliability and Performance

Mylex Corporation the world's leading RAID controller vendor in the non-captive network systems

marketplace, today announced that it will demonstrate its broad range of RAID controllers at

Computex, Asia's largest computer tradeshow. The show takes place June 1 - 5 in Taipei, Taiwan.

Mylex will demonstrate multiple high performance RAID controllers and how they maximize the

performance and reliability of network storage. The demonstrations include the Mylex DACFF(TM)

Fibre-to-Fibre controller in a clustered environment; the high performance eXtremeRAID(TM) 1100

in a PCI clustered environment; and the AcceleRAID(TM) family of high performance, low cost RAID

controllers.

``Computex visitors will have the opportunity to experience the full depth and breadth of our product

line,'' said Soogil Stephen Cho, Mylex vice president of Asia Pacific Sales. ``On the high-end

enterprise level, they will see the world's fastest RAID controller, the DACFF, which is ideal for Fibre

Channel and Storage Area Networks (SANs). On the entry-level, they will see the AcceleRAID

family, which brings the benefits of RAID to small-to-medium sized networks and makes RAID

feasible on workstations and desktops.''

Mylex DACFF Essential Building Block for Clustering and SANs

Mylex's DACFF incorporates the latest technology to support the fault tolerance of clustering, as well

as the performance and efficiency of SANs. The controller provides an end-to-end Fibre Channel

interface between the host computer and the disk drives, and delivers almost four times the I/O

performance of traditional Ultra SCSI controllers. With dual active, automatic failover/failback host

cluster support via two copper FC-AL (Fibre Channel Arbitrated Loop) channels, the DACFF

enables flexible configuration and redundant connections for high-availability applications. In addition

to supporting automatic failover/failback, DACFF provides support for four other critically important

clustered storage capabilities, including active-active operation, mirrored write caching, scalable I/O

performance and scalable I/O capacity.

At Computex, Mylex will demonstrate how the DACFF can achieve fault-tolerance through the

redundancy of a clustered environment. The dual-active DACFF running at 190 MB per second will

be clustered with two Acer servers, Seagate (NYSE:SEG news) disk drives and a Sagitta Salient

external storage subsystem.

Mylex eXtremeRAID Overcomes I/O Bottlenecks at All Levels

Mylex also will demonstrate its award-winning, highly scalable, internal PCI RAID controller, the

eXtremeRAID 1100, in a PCI clustering environment with two Acer servers. eXtremeRAID 1100

significantly eliminates I/O bottlenecks between the storage and controller; at the controller; and

between the controller and the server. eXtremeRAID 1100 integrates several advanced technologies,

including Mylex firmware, a 233MHz Intel (Nasdaq:) StrongARM on-board RISC processor, a

64-bit PCI bus and multiple Ultra2 SCSI LVD buses. The controller delivers performance greater

than 8,000 I/Os per second as compared to the 2,500 I/Os per second typical of many other

mid-range and high-end controllers.

At Computex, Mylex will also exhibit its roadmap for eXtremeRAID 1100's support of the new Ultra3

and Ultra 160/m SCSI standards.

eXtremeRAID 1100 and its predecessor, the Mylex DAC960PJ, have helped several of the leading

server vendors establish TPC-C and TPC-D world records for performance and price/performance.

Mylex recently announced that eXtremeRAID 1100 helped Acer set a world TPC-C record in

price/performance for its AcerAltos 21000 server. On May 17, Windows NT Magazine honored

eXtremeRAID 1100 by choosing it as an Editor's Favorite.

AcceleRAID Family Delivers Performance and Reliability Typical of Expensive RAID Controllers

At Computex, Mylex will exhibit its AcceleRAID family, a low cost line of controllers that offer many

of the same high performance and fault tolerance features typical of expensive high-end RAID

controllers. AcceleRAID's low cost is achieved by utilizing the on-board SCSI channels of Intel's

next-generation motherboards. AcceleRAID supports Ultra2 SCSI and features Mylex's advanced

RAID architecture, which includes an Intel RISC processor, a monolithic NT driver and Mylex

firmware. AcceleRAID's aggressive price-point provides the opportunity for Mylex's distributors,

resellers and OEM customers to offer the benefits of RAID to a broader range of customers, such as

entry-level server and workstation users.

Pricing, Availability and Specifications

eXtremeRAID 1100 is available in two and three channel configurations with MSRP pricing starting at

$1,395 for a two-channel configuration. The AcceleRAID family consists of the AcceleRAID 150,

200 and 250 models, with MSRP for the family starting at $499. eXtremeRAID 1100 and the

AcceleRAID family can be purchased through Mylex's worldwide channel network, which includes

distributors, resellers and systems integrators. For a complete list of authorized Mylex distributors, visit

http://www.mylex.com/wtb/distrub.html.

The DACFF carries an MRSP starting at $6,410 and, in addition to the eXtremeRAID 1100 and

AcceleRAID family, is also available through Mylex's worldwide team of PC server OEM partners.

The controllers support all major operating systems, including Windows NT, Linux (through third

parties), NetWare, SCO UNIX, UnixWare and OS/2.
